What is a Saturn Return?
Have you ever felt like life is throwing you into the deep end without a life raft? Welcome to your Saturn Return! This astrological rite of passage happens around ages 29-30, when Saturn returns to the same place in your birth chart as it was when you were born. It’s a time of upheaval, reinvention, and (if you’re not paying attention) some tough love from the universe.
I ignored every piece of Saturn Return advice, and spoiler alert: it was brutal. My Saturn Return landed in my 9th house, shaking up my entire worldview and life path. I was making choices based on what I thought I should be doing rather than what actually made me happy. Sound familiar?
The Wake-Up Call I Didn’t See Coming
For years, I followed the "perfect" plan: grad school, teaching dance, climbing the ranks as a professor. But despite doing everything "right," something felt deeply wrong. I was lost, stuck in a life that didn’t fit.
Then I discovered I was in my Saturn Return, and suddenly, the existential crisis made sense. The self-doubt, the restlessness, the overwhelming urge to pivot, it wasn’t just in my head. Astrology showed me that Saturn was clearing out what no longer served me.
The final push? An astrocartography reading that pointed me back to NYC, the one place I’d always thrived. So, I took the leap. I moved back, continued teaching as an adjunct, and leaned fully into reading birth charts and teaching astrology instead. It was terrifying, but it was also exactly right.
What I Wish I Had Done Differently
Saturn doesn’t mess around, but if I could do it over, here’s what I’d tell myself (and you!):
🔹 Get Real About Your Goals – Stop living on autopilot. What do you actually want? Saturn is here to strip away illusions and push you toward what’s meaningful.
🔹 Set Boundaries Like Your Life Depends on It – Because, honestly, it does. Saturn rewards those who learn to say "no" to what drains them.
🔹 Get Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable – Growth happens in the discomfort. If everything feels like a mess, you’re probably on the right track.
🔹 Embrace Structure – Saturn loves discipline. Small, consistent habits will keep you grounded when everything else feels unstable.
🔹 Declutter Ruthlessly – Relationships, jobs, habits. If it’s not supporting your growth, let it go. Make space for what truly aligns with you.
🔹 Own Your Decisions – Not everyone will understand your choices. That’s okay. Saturn wants you to step into your power and trust yourself.
🔹 Prioritize Self-Care – Think of it as survival fuel for your Saturn Return. Rest, move your body, nourish your mind.
Trust the Process
Your Saturn Return isn’t just about breakdowns, it’s about breakthroughs. It’s the universe showing you where you’re out of alignment and pushing you toward your most authentic life. So lean in, trust yourself, and know that you’re not alone in this transformation.
Your Saturn Return isn’t just a challenge, it’s a rite of passage, shaping you into the person you’re meant to become. Understanding Saturn’s lessons in your chart can help you navigate this transition with clarity and confidence.
